Day of Birth

Today I turn 22.

Last night was fantastic. But very, very messy.

Everyone I needed was there.

Thankyou @samifurse

I feel like I'm growing up. Fast

Productivity

I'm still searching for an application that has exactly what I need.
Something that will keep me productive and up to date on my commitments and tasks.

An app that makes my iPhone a work device aswell.

I've yet to find it but keep experimenting.

Maybe i should just develop something myself!! If only it was that simple...

Discharged

Went back to the hospital today.

It appears I've just re-entered the usual cycle that I've been in my whole life.

I've been given these tablets that I've been taking for a while. I think they're making things a little better. But it's always hard to tell.

But this is all they can do now. So I stop going to the doctor and to the hospital for a while. Then in a few years things will get worse and I'll go back.

I do hope I don't have to go through this cycle again. But I have accepted the inevitability.

Please don't thing I'm upset. I'm actually in a good mood today.

27th of January

Apple has a press event coming up next week.

I recko they're going to announce a tablet and new phone. I'm just sad it's going to be ages until I can afford them...

Damn myself for upgrading to the Pre! Lol

I think I'm more excited about a tablet though.. But I must save for Vegas.

It'll have to wait..

Anxiety

So today I wait with baited breath to see if I have achieved a work related goal.

Today the figures for the last quarter of 2009 are collated and we will see if we have done enough to achieve a bonus as a team.

I will be so ecstatic if we do. And if not I will be disappointed. People tell me I shouldn't be, and yes I have done a lot in my short time in my new role. But that would be the icing on the cake.

I will hopefully be able to update this later on with the good/bad news...

FINGERS CROSSED!

UPDATE 14:19: Still nothing. This is torture..

FINAL UPDATE: We didn't get there. Actually fell further short than I'd expected. At least we have improved.
I'm absoulutely gutted.
But guess we'll just have to work harder in 2010

CORRECTION: The figures were given to mr incorrectly!! WE DID IT!!!!

Wooooo! I'm so happy

Sense and Insenseability

From my late teens until now I have always suffered from an acute sense of 'paranoia' when it comes to people and my partners.

The main problem is that my fears are usually founded. Whether it be from having doubts in somebody's faithfullness or in believing the feeling somebody has towards my partner, I am correct in pretty much every case.

So maybe its not a paranoia as much as a character judging skill. Nevertheless it is mighty annoying and can cause issues in relationships.

However, in my opinion, things would just be much easier if these people would leave my girlfriend alone.

I dont feel it about everyone, just some people. And eventually I seem to be proven correct one way or another.

I just wish people wouldn't try and squeeze their way in. 'IF SHE WANTED YOU SHE'D BE WITH YOU', is something I would oft like to cry. However I wouldn't, as this would cause a scene.

Nevermind though aye?

Addiction

Today I have succombe to Words With Friends.
It's an iPhone game, like scrabble which allows you to play against friends or randoms over 3G.

Currently I have about 10 games going on. I'm loving it. I've literally been playing all day. It's uncontrollable!

On another note, I gave my first performance review today. It went well. But I knew this one would be easiest. Another two for this week. I'm sure it'll go okay.

Anyhoo, just a short post. Byeee

Virgin

So today I have sent an email to Virgin asking of they have any info on their new branch proposition.

So far I have based all my information onone Financial Times piece which spoke of the new bank being an 'exciting' place which will look to change UK banking and treat their staff really well.

I'm not too sure why I'm interested in this or why I'm considering giving up my job security and share options for this. But there's just something about the idea of a new company that's trying to find it's way. With little 'red tape' and procedural nightmares, that intrigues me..

Who knows how it'll go. I just hope they can give me some info..

UPDATE: It would appear that Church House (the bank Virgin bought) were very small, with no branches at all. So if Virgin are looking to expand it's going to be quite some time before they start reaching out to the high street.

Nevermind!

Hello!

Today is Jan 10th.
I haven't particularly got a bunch to say today.
It's been a Kerazy weekend this weekend. I'll tell you that.

On an unrelated note I'd forgotten how great a show Friends actually was.
There'll probabaly never be anything like that again. There are better shows. But that was simply unique.

I will also include a picture of what I can see right now (you may notice friends series 6)

There's a lot of snow about at the moment. (see second picture). It's really been coming down over the past couple of weeks. And Britain is shutting down. Slowly. I honestly don't think we can handle it.

I think this is setting a trend for how we can expect weather in this country going forward. I can't see it getting any better than this. Every year I reckon we are likely to get this amount of snow. If not more.
Maybe we will need to spend money, as taxpayers, to create an infastructure than can handle it.

A bit rangy today. No real structure. But I guess that's my mind

Oh another thing! I'm thinking of applying for a job with Virgin Money when they start opening branches. I don't know if this is a good idea. I have job security right now. But it wouldn't hurt to investigate! Fingers crossed..

New Years Resolutions

So another year is upon us, another decade in fact!

Previously I have never made any resolutions.. but there are some things I would like to do/achieve this year, and putting them down somewhere may just help me do that..
So here goes!

1- Be a better partner. Cause more smiles, less tears
2- Be successful at work and start making headway in to a promotion
3- Save! Start saving for Las Vegas and then continue saving for the future/rainy days
4- Write. I have recently discovered that this is a 'strength' of mine and is a skill that needs to be developed.
5- Read. I have a shiny new Kindle that I need to continue using. Plus I should start reading things outside of my comfort zone; expanding my mind.
6- Get organised. I need to develop systems and ways to organise my thoughts and my work. Therefore allowing things to just run smoother.
7- Exercise! The age-old resolution. But it's something I should do.
8- Fruit. Eat more of it
9- Cancel superflous mobile phone contracts. And only buy any new phones without contracts.
10- Take more photos. In general.

So there we go. There's some. And it wasn't too hard.
Now all that's left is for me to actually do these things

House

Is without doubt the best TV show ever.

I didn't think something could steal the (US) Office's crown for me but it has.

If you haven't watched it you must! But start from the beginning!

On the subject of reading

Recently I feel I may have rekindled (excuse the eventual pun) a love for reading.

Over the past couple of years audio has more than sufficed for my preffered intake of information. Not so much television or print, but the medium of podcasts or audiobooks.

Mainly I have succomed to this form as I am a traveller. I quite frequently find myself on public transport for extended periods of time in which I am usually connected to my iPod, which streams this content in to my head.

However Christmas 2009 is approaching and in my stocking this year I will find an Amazon Kindle. (on a side note, why did a mass retailer of books name itself after a rainforest? Strangely paradoxical)

Therefore I have decided I need to get back on to reading, or face the risk of a wasteful gift.

Currently my vice has become Stephen Fry's autobiography. Of which I am adoring and considering my recent track record, going through it pretty quickly.

So yeah, that kindle shouldn't be a waste at all.
Well at least I hope

My Homescreen

I think that its pretty safe to say i love my iphone. I'm obsessed with the thing..
I'm constantly fondling and canoodling with it all day long. I love the design and most of all the beautiful applications that live inside of it.

Therefore, inspired by firstand20.com I have decided to do a rundown on the applications on my homescreen.
While these may not be all of my favourite apps (i have loads of games that i adore) these are the applications that I use the most, and have the biggest impact on my life.

As you can see the very bottom row of apps for me has remained unchanged from the apple defaults, with the same being said for Messages and Calendar. I was an iPhone 1.0 user, so my brain is far too used to these apps being in these places as they are easily amongst my most used.

Next we move on to Evernote. I love Evernote, I use it as my 'check out later' service. If I see a cool website or product I email it to my Evernote account to check out later on my Mac.

The last app on my top row is Squarespace. I was waiting for this app to be released for a VERY long time and i'm so glad it has. The app itself is gorgeous, and it allows me to post to my blog from anywhere i am. I enjoy that freedom.

The next row down features Newsstand which i feel to be the very best RSS client out there, its clean and fast and gives me all the functionality and sharing options I would need. Next up is Foursquare, a service which i love and think will be the next big thing in the social space.

The two Twitter clients that feature on my homescreen are Birdhouse and Tweetie 2. I love these applications so dearly, and I have a hard time choosing my favourite. The simple nature of Birdhouse is fantastic, I think the premise of the app is great, and it has allowed me to sculpt some of my best Tweets. Then we have Tweetie, which is the greatest featured Twitter client available. It has everything you could need in this type of app coupled with a beautiful interface. It's not without it's flaws, but i'm sure these will all be patched up in time.

Down another row features the Camera app (which doubles for me as the photo app also) then Instapaper which i use for those long, read-it-later web articles. Then we have Things, which is my new favourite task manager/to-do app. I'm really enjoying the simple nature of Things and I enjoy the syncing with the desktop app, similar to the next app Cha-Ching. This is my finance application, which helps me keep track of my finances; making sure i don't spend too much on app store downloads!

The bottom row are four more native Apple applications, but again I use these every day so wouldn't dare move them from the homescreen.

There we go then! My lovely iPhone's homescreen!
Hope you enjoyed my geeking out.. Maybe if you're lucky I'll post some more similar stuff in future!

Adios!

DONT PANIC

No, nothing's broken. I've just succumb to my usual website OCD.

Socialfanboy for the moment, is no more.. it didn't take off for me like i hoped it would, so I have therefore decided to put it on the back burner for a bit.

What was once socialfanboy.com has now become the new and improved mykehurley.com, however I've decided to keep the old Socialfanboy posts as I am quite proud of them.

I've been using tumblr as my personal blog for a while, and it had basically become a photoblog for me. You can still see this at mykellog.com or you can see the exact same pictures in my Flickr feed.

Ideally I'd quite like to start posting again. But for that we'll just have to wait and see.

Until my next web design explosion then!

Oh dear Verizon. Why?

Why publicise a feature like exchange support heavily and quote how great it is that you support it, then charge extra for it monthly?!

iPhone iDoesnt do that, does it?!

Foursquare partners with Rail service

The social networking site Foursquare has just partnered with the San Francisco rail network BART.

The partnership, announced today is the first major partnership that Foursquare has entered in to. The deal allows customers to recieve a custom BART badge if they are checking in at train stations as well as automatically entering these users in to a draw to recieve free rail tickets.

Seeing a relationship like this further solidifies Foursquares business potential; the partnerships that could come in the future could generate some serious revenue for the company. For example if fast food outlets like McDonalds were to get on board, offering badges and free food offers for the 'mayor' in return for effectively free advertising and brand awareness.

On the whole this is a very promising move for the growing company and it also helps answer the question of whether it's good 'Foursquare ethics' to check-in at rail stations...
